Why Propagate Corals?

A lot of people ask us why we are so desperate to promote coral propagation as a form of conversation, and our answer is simply "because we can"! Coral propagation is NOT all that difficult to do, yet there is no doubt that it is very effective in reducing the burden our hobby places on the wild reefs of the world. Research shows that the aquatics hobby is responsible for a relatively tiny amount of "reef destruction", when compared to such other 'culprits' as "global warming", pollution, dredging and so on, but any means by which we can become less reliant on wild sources of these amazing animals is to be strongly encouraged!

Many people also ask us why we are so willing to share information on our successes (and in some cases, failures!) with coral propagation, even down to sharing information on the techniques we use. Many people feel that we are "shooting ourselves in the foot" by publishing this information, but we feel so strongly that coral propagation is an important part of our hobby, that it is essential to share this information with others - so that they might try coral propagation for themselves!
